MIT A went 2-3 in the playoff bracket, while MIT B was 0-5 in the playoffs (including a loss to MIT A). Both records include a final-round forfeit, as the teams had to leave early to catch the commuter rail. Both teams played short-handed, with only three people on each.

Terrier Tussle 15

April 22, 2006

MIT swept the opening round robin for a 7-0 record, earning the top seed in the playoffs. The team finished at 11-1 overall, defeating Dartmouth A in the finals to take first place in the tournament. The team took home fabulous prizes for their performance, including but not limited to the following classic literary works:

  • Walden Two by B. F. Skinner
  • Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser
  • Coming of Age in Samoa by Margaret Mead
  • Eugene V. Debs: The Making of an American Radical
  • Lara Croft: Tomb Raider by Dave Stern, based on the screenplay by Patrick Massett and John Zinman, and adapted by Simon West
  • Is Your Crush Crushing Back?: 20 Love Quizzes to Set Your Heart Straight, published by Alloy Books

There were several special rules in effect for this tournament. Toss-up questions contained two power marks, one for the normal 15 points, and an even earlier one for a "super power" 20 points. The lightning round is a 60-second-long round in which a team answers 10 related questions, earning 5 points for a right answer and losing 5 for a wrong answer. Additionally, each team was allowed to declare one bonus as a "50-or-nothing," earning 50 points if all parts of the bonus were answered correctly, and 0 points otherwise. (This might help to explain some of our unreasonably-high bonus conversion rates.)
